Amazing Wildlife

From the deepest oceans to the vast plains of Africa, a diversity of species surrounds us. Witnessing their behaviour in the wild is truly exhilarating. It should not be a privilege for the chosen few or a heritage taken for granted. The world grows smaller each day and habitats disappear. Species dwindle, some become extinct. For many it is the last stand. Will our generation be remembered as the bystanders watching the beginning of the end?

Life as a Mammal

Mammals are a group of vertebrate animals characterized by the presence of mammary glands. This results in the females producing milk for feeding and nursing their young. Each species has a  varying degree of maternal and paternal instinct. This results in behaviours that can only be described as “the good, the bad and the ugly”. Photographing these behaviours is an absolute joy! I become engrossed in their lives and feel like part of their extended family. I hope you have as much of a connection through this album.

Born Free

There’s no doubt that baby animals are heartwarmingly cute, but Unlike human infants, animals must adapt quickly to survive life in the wild. Growing up they face immense challenges, competing for the same food, with dangerous predators around every corner. Animals in the wild often stir up strong emotions. It is difficult to witness a predator stalking its prey and ultimately making its kill. It is a fight for survival.

Unforgettable Creatures

Reptiles (and invertebrates) have a raw deal. They are feared, misunderstood or loathed. Very few of us warm up to them. Even I have a phobia to some of them (snakes), which makes photographing them a personal challenge. Let us not forget that some of them are descendants of the dinosaurs having evolved to a rich variety of unforgettable creatures. We need to support their place in ecosystems, for they have a role, they have a purpose.

Wings

A category dedicated to our feathered friends, the ultimate travellers. Some migrate vast distances and endure the hardship of the extremes of climate. Others stay closer to us and provide a pivotal role in local ecosystems. They are the hunters, the scavengers, the singers and the dancers. They inspired us to fly. Yet, humans are the main cause for the disappearance of many of their species. It’s time to stop clipping their wings.

Personal Statement

From a young age I was exposed to observing animals in the wild. After numerous wildlife tours across the world I still find myself excited at the prospect of the next expedition.Things happen quickly and you must be able to adapt. Sometimes nothing happens at all or you miss that fleeting moment. Thats wildlife, unpredictable at times, frustrating at times but also hugely rewarding and exciting! My vision is to showcase my work in a manner that shows the joy but also the fragility of the beautiful creatures that roam our planet.
